Young BMW ace John Edwards topped the timesheets in today’s first session at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park as the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship makes its Canadian debut this weekend.

Edwards recorded a time of 1:16.019 late in the session to top Marc Goosens who had topped the timesheets for most of the session aboard the No.91 Dodge Viper.

Championship leader Jan Magnussen was third fastest for Corvette Racing. Magnussen and Antonio Garcia have been on a winning streak – taking the past three race wins in succession at Long Beach, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Watkins Glen.

In the prototype class it was a strong start for the Le Mans-style P2 prototypes. Gustavo Yacaman was fastest overall aboard the Oak Racing Nissan-power Morgan and the only man to break into the 1 minute, 10 second barrier – recording a time of 1:10.928.

The ESM duo of Ryan Dalziel and Johannes van Overbeek were second and third fastest with their HPD Honda machines.

Christian Fittipaldi was the fastest Daytona Prototype in fourth place.

In the GT Daytona class, Spencer Pumpelly was fastest for Flying Lizard Audi – in fact – he was fastest and third fastest overall – recording laps in both Lizard machines. Audi were actually 1-2-3 in the session.

Teams are back on track this afternoon from 4:15pm.
