BMW show pace in final practice

vir_practice_8_21_15_18Corvette leads the championship, the last three races have been all about Porsche, yesterday it was Ferrari who ruled the roost and this morning it was BMW who topped the timesheet at VIR.

Bill Auberlen set the fastest lap of the day – becomming the first to go under the 102 second bracket with a time of 1:41.953.

His teammate Lucas Luhr held second for much of the session before Nick Tandy’s Porsche jumped to second in the closing minutes of the session.

vir_practice3_8_22_15_17Porsche received a scare at the end of the session when both Tandy and Joerg Bergmeister fell off the road. The “off” was the second for the No.911 in the session.

Despite also suffering an off-track excursion coming onto the main straight, yesterday’s pacesetting Risi Ferrari was fourth fastest today as teams completed their final runs before this afternoon’s qualifying session.

The top seven “factory” cars were all under last year’s qualifying record of 1:43.797.

In the GT Daytona class Audi factory ace Christopher Haase topped the times for Paul Miller Racing ahead of Andy Lally’s Porsche and Markus Palttala who is looking to repeat Turner Motorsport’s victory here at VIR from last year.

Cars will be back on track from 4:40pm this afternoon with GT Daytona qualifying first, followed by GT Le Mans at 5:05pm.
