The BMW boys were strong again at Sebring this afternoon, setting the pace in the GTLM class as day one of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship test came to a close.

While Bill Auberlen topped the times in the morning, young American teammate John Edwards was fastest in the afternoon, stopping the clocks at 1:59.196.

Porsche’s Patrick Pilet was second fastest ahead of Ford’s Sebastien Bourdais.

Ford’s pair of IndyCar aces both set the fastest time of the afternoon in their respective Ford GTs. Both Bourdais and reigning IndyCar champion Scott Dixon are now en route to Arizona where they will switch back into IndyCar mode for their pre-season test at the Phoenix oval.

sebring_test_22“I was involved in a bit of the early stuff with this program in a few tests at the end of last year, but I didn’t get to drive it at Daytona,” Dixon said (pictured right).

“Obviously, it’s a big change from the Prototype to the GT, but it’s a fun program to be part of. It’s nice to come here, run a few laps and make the car as durable as possible.

“It’s definitely different from anything I’ve driven here at Sebring. The car is still early on in its life cycle, so there’s a lot of room to develop things. It’s a new book; there are a lot of directions you can go, and it’s nice to be driving something you can have some influence.”

Action Express Racing again topped the timesheet this afternoon with Christian Fittipaldi stopping the clocks at 1:51.965 – 2/10ths of a second quicker than teammate Dane Cameron.

Other class leaders today included Colin Braun in PC and Patrick Lindsey in GTD.

Teams will be back on track tomorrow for two more four hour sessions – starting at 8:00am and 1:00pm.
