Extreme Speed Motorsport’s Johannes van Overbeek is ready for his second race event at Circuit of The Americas this weekend, but his first in prototype machinery.
The Californian-based veteran is enjoying his first ever season in prototype competition and yesterday’s rain gave him his first opportunity to try the car in wet conditions.
He qualified the No.02 HPD in second place in P2 yesterday, trailing Level 5 Motorsports Marino Franchitti but outpacing teammate, Anthony Lazzaro.
“That was my first time driving the prototype in the rain. I didn’t quite know what to expect out of the tire. In hindsight, I would have done a couple of things differently and I think we really could have had a shot at the pole,” van Overbeek said.
“I’m happy. We’re P2, the car is one piece. With the expected rain tomorrow, we know what to do differently with the car to make it better. Ed and I are looking forward to a good race on Saturday.
“Rain is an equalizer and another variable to a new track. It will be dicey if it does rain, but we’re prepared for the challenge.”
