Big wins for Muscle Milk, Corvette & CORE

April 14, 2012

Muscle Milk Pickett Racing, Corvette Racing and CORE autosport were the big winners on the streets of Long Beach as the American Le Mans Series did battle on the historic California street circuit today.

The victory was the first time an ALMS team has won overall back-to-back races. Muscle Milk used the same drivers but with a different car in 2012. The Benica, CA-based squad drove an Aston Martin to victory here last year but used their new HPD ARX-03a to good effect today.

Lucas Luhr chased down and passed the Dyson Racing Lola after 25 minutes, but refueling issues at a mid-race pit stop during a safety car period forced Klaus Graf to return to the pits for a second stop to ensure they had a full load of fuel.

Graf went on a charge to retake the lead with 38 minutes to go and was never threatened.

Corvette Racing took its first GT victory at Long Beach. The GM brand had previously won here in the GT1 class but today’s win was the first in the hotly contested GT division which pitches Corvette against Ferrai, BMW, Porsche and Lotus.

Oliver Gavin brought the car home at the finish after Tommy Milner drove the opening stint. Today’s win was Milner first win in American Le Mans Series competition.

CORE autosport took its second consecutive ALMS LMPC victory today and their second Long Beach win in a row.

Alex Popow backed up his Sebring win with victory today with Ryan Dalziel.
