Big Week for Franchittis
This is a big week for the racing Franchitti brothers.
Dario Franchitti (left), the self-proclaimed ‘official helmet carrier’ to his brother, Nissan DeltaWing driver Marino (right), scored his third victory in the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday.
Next Sunday, June 3, Marino will wheel the radical Nissan DeltaWing in its first appearance at the official Le Mans test day in advance of the June 16-17 running of the 24 Hour race.
Dario joins Johnny Rutherford, Bobby Unser and Helio Castroneves in the ten group of three-time winners. Only A.J Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears are four-time winners. Mears’ brother, Roger, was a highly successful off-road racer. Unser’s brother, Bobby, was a three-time Indy winner.
It is not clear if any of them carried sibling’s helmets.
