Big leads before yellow
Big leads before yellow
The action in the Mobil 1 presents the Grand Prix of Mosport really kicked into high gear after the first round of pit stops when huge leads in LMP1 and LMPC were eroded.
Lucas Luhr was close to lapping the LMP1 field when the Johannes van Overbeek-driven Extreme Speed Ferrari and the Autocon Lola clashed in turn 1, bringing out the yellow flag.
Unfortunately, ESPN reported the Muscle Milk team did not pit initially as they hadn’t been informed that the pit lane was open. On the restart, Luhr began his fightback from 4th overall.
Chris Dyson resumed in the race lead after having earlier fought to hold off teammate Humaid Al Masaood (pictured above).
CORE autosport’s Ricardo Gonzalez’s LMPC lead was up to 44 seconds when the yellow came out. He has been able to resume at the head of the pack and is now stretching the gap to second place over Jon Field.
BMW’s Joey Hand’s turn at the front of the pack turned to disaster in the pits when he was jumped by Oliver Gavin’s Corvette and Toni Vilander’s Ferrari in the pits. Contact between Hand and Vilander earned the BMW driver a stop-go penalty.
Joerg Bergmeister now leads the GT class for Flying Lizard Motorsport aboard their Porsche.
