Audi’s Allan McNish appears to have escaped serious injury in the first big incident of the race. McNish had a very big tumble into the barriers after contact with the Luxury Racing Ferrari driven by Anthony Beltoise.
The right front corner of Beltoise’s car and the left rear corner of McNish’s made contact as they entered the Tetre Rouge corner.
McNish was aided from his overturned car by the marshals, but was walking unassisted. He is currently being evaluated at the medical center. Beltoise was able to restart and drive his damaged car back to the pits.
The safety car has been deployed for a clean up that is expected to take over 30 minutes.
