The Nissan DeltaWing captured the imagination and attention of the media and fans at Le Mans.
Designed to compete with half the horsepower, weight, drag, and fuel of conventional LMP1 entries, the DeltaWing, with special four-inch wide Michelin front tires, delivered on all of its design promises and met all of the performance targets set by the sanctioning Automobile Club l’Ouest (ACO).
Powered by a 300 horsepower, Nissan DIT turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with direct injection, the DeltaWing achieved a top speed of 309.5 kph (192.3 miles per hour), and with a best lap of 3:42.6 bettered the ACO targets of 300 kph straight-line speed and a 3:45 lap time.
