Back to back wins for Ganassi
Back to back wins for Ganassi
Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas have four Rolex Series championships to their credit but the way they have performed in the past two TUDOR United SportsCar Championship races, more silverware could be on its way to the American/Mexican combination.
The Chip Ganassi Racing squad won at Sebring with Marino Franchitti joining the duo and they back it up again today with a flawless performance in the Long Beach Grand Prix.
Rojas led from the start and handed over to Pruett at the half way mark. The duo actually led every lap but one – a solitary lap during the pit stop hand-over.
“First of all, congrats to all of Telmex Ganassi racing, we needed this after the setback from Daytona and to be on top of the podium is great,” Rojas said.
“This is my first time in Long Beach. For some reason, I’ve never been able to race at Long Beach. Its one of the best American tracks that I’ve never been able to race at.
“We pulled out of the truck quick and were quickest during qualifying. There was a lot of less grip on the race track during the race, we had a lot more rubber on the track the other days, but it was the same for everyone. I don’t remember driving a more flawless race in this car, and I’ve been doing this for seven years now. I handed over the car to Scott and he could keep us in the front the rest of the race.
“I’m so happy to get the car its second win already this season. Its not a matter of wanting to prove something, we just want to win races. We knew the merger would bring a lot of challenges, and we’re in the middle of it, but it’s all going really well and the outcome so far.
“From the sport side of it, its challenging for the teams to bring them up to spec and developing the cars. After just the first 2 races we learned so much about the car we didn’t know about it before Daytona. But the DP cars had to make a lot of changes, more than the P2, but I expect the competition to get even tougher each race.”
Pruett had to mostly be concerned with a dogged chase by Jordan Taylor, in the No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette DP he shares with his brother Ricky. Pruett, driving steadily, edged Taylor by a scant 0.759 seconds at the finish. Finishing third was Joao Barbosa, who co-drove the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP with Christian Fittipaldi.
