August recap: Michelin in MotoGP, WRC, WEC

After the summer break in July, two more Michelin Motorsport global championships resumed their seasons with busy months of August.

The FIM MotoGPTM World Championship had the busiest month of August, with three races in the Czech Republic, Austria and Great Britain.

Meanwhile the FIA World Rally Championship raced in Finland and Germany.

This weekend, the FIA World Endurance Championship started its 2019-’20 season in Silverstone.

Marc Marquez (Honda, Czech Republic, recap), Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati, Austria, recap) and Alex Rins (Suzuki, Great Britain, recap) claimed the last three wins.

Leaving Silverstone, Marquez retains a significant gap in the championship standings. He has 250 points to Dovizioso’s 172 points.

The series resumes in San Marino Sept. 15 to kick off a hectic final stretch of the season with seven races in 10 weekends.

Toyota’s Ott Tanak has leapt to lead this year’s WRC standings following wins in both Rally Finland and Rally Germany.

With both Sebastien Ogier and Thierry Neuville failing to finish on the podium in either event, Tanak now holds a 33-point lead with four rallies to go.

Michelin rolled out its 2019-’20 range of tires for the 4 Hours of Silverstone this past weekend and claimed all four class victories to kick off the new FIA WEC season.

Toyota claimed its latest 1-2 finish overall, with the trio of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose Maria Lopez leading the way in their No. 7 TS050 Hybrid.

Porsche took a debut win for its new 911 RSR in GTE-Pro. Series debutante Cool Racing won in LMP2 and AF Corse Ferrari secured the GTE-Am win.
