silverstone_gal_fri_poleAudi has locked out the front row at Silverstone for tomorrow’s opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Marcel Fässler and André Lotterer combined to set the fastest time in qualifying aboard the No.7 Audi they will share with Benoît Tréluyer.

silverstone_gal_fri_pole_driversSnow at Silverstone had earlier curtailed the final practice session and by the time qualifying kicked off, the track temperature was still on 42 degrees (f).

Lucas di Grassi/Loïc Duval/Oliver Jarvis will start second aboard the No.8 machine. For Audi, it was their 12th pole in the championship which was originally launched in 2012.

“We had no idea what to expect. But we made the right decisions and were fast enough,” said the Lotterer who started the session in the Audi.

Subsequently, Marcel Fässler – recent winner for Corvette Racing at Daytona and Sebring – took over the No.7 entry.

“Qualifying was fun. The car gave us very good feedback. ‘Thank you’ to the team that’s been putting in a lot of long and hard hours lately,” said the Swiss.

Porsche will Porsche fill out second row with No.1 heading the No.2 Porsche 919 Hybrid ahead of the two Toyotas.

“The conditions were very cold and it was even snowing in the morning,” Porsches’ Brendon Hartley said.

“I think we made the right call to keep our full wets on the car in qualifying to try and get some temperatures into them. I had some traffic on my last lap, otherwise I could have definitely improved although not enough for the front row. In these conditions Audi was better than us.”

Other pole positions went to Rene Rast and Roman Rusinov LM P2 in the G-Drive ORECA-Nissan, AF Corse in GTE Pro with Sam Bird and Davide Rigon in the No.71 Ferrari and the No.88 Abu-Dhabi-Proton Racing Porsche 911RSR of Al Qubaisi/Heinemeier-Hansson/Bachler in GTE Am.
