Aston Martin Racing victorious return

Aston Martin Racing hadn’t been seen in battle in the American Le Mans Series since finishing second last season on the streets of Long Beach.

But the British factory squad came back to the ALMS in grand style today by winning the ModSpace American Le Mans Monterey event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Adrian Fernandez, Harold Primat and Stefan Mucke won the six hour event by three laps over the Dyson Racing combo of Guy Smith, Chris Dyson and Jay Cochran.

Aston Martin Racing has reverted to running their V-12 powered Lola chassis the previous weekend in Silverstone in the ILMC and flew straight to the West coast to do battle this weekend.

While the factory squad clinched the win, Muscle Milk Aston Martin Racing had a troubled day – losing many laps fixing an oil pump issue. The delay unfortunately was enough to push the championship out of reach – the Dyson squad clinching the title with one race still to go at Petit Le Mans in two weeks.

In LMPC, the title battle is far from over. Genoa Racing has fought back since Mosport to close the points gap to CORE autosport – and today, they surpassed them to take the team and driver’s points lead.

GT action at times resembled more of a demolition derby, rather than a GT race. Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long eventually came out on top to take their first win of the season for Flying Lizard Motorsport.

Remarkably, the Porsche GT Hybrid which ran unclassified actually finished ahead of all the GT cars in the hands of Romain Dumas and Richard Leitz.
