Aston Martin continues strong pace
Aston Martin continued to show strong pace at Daytona International Raceway this morning with Darren Turner topping the GT Le Mans times at the “Roar before the 24”.
Turner stopped the clocks at 1:44.476, topping early pacesetter Jan Magnussen in the No.3 Corvette. Turner’s time was marginally slower than teammate Pedro Lamy’s best GTLM time of the day from yesterday at 1:44.414.
Ferrari were third and fourth with Risi Competizione’s Pierre Kaffer leading Toni Vilander.
In the prototype ranks Jordan Taylor set the pace for Wayne Taylor Racing. Osvaldo Negri, Jr put the Ligier P2 car in second ahead of Joao Barbosa’s Corvette DP.
The session was red flagged after a massive crash for Byron DeFoor aboard the No. 50 Highway to Help Riley-Dinan DP.
Eyewitness reports indicate DeFoor spun backwards in the tri-oval, caught air and impacted the catch fence before landing upside down on its roof.
DeFoor was treated at the infield medical center and was released. The No.50 car is the machine also being driven by former FOX Sports commentator and Trans-Am legend Dorsey Schroeder who initially “retired” in 2002.
