Aston Martin in Charge in GTE Qualifying
Aston Martin has captured the provisional pole in the GTE Pro and GTE Am classes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Richie Stanaway, a rookie at Le Mans, put the No. 99 Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE on top in GTE Pro with a fast lap at the end of the two-hour qualifying session, stopping the clocks at 3:54.928.
Aston Martin claimed three of the top four qualifying spots in GTE Pro as the No. 97 Aston Martin “Art Car” was third at 3:56.364 with Stefan Mucke at the wheel. The No. 95 Aston Martin was fourth.
Ferrari ace Gianmaria Bruni served notice that the AF Corsa team intends to repeat as Le Mans GTE winners with a 3:55.306 lap that put the No. 51 Ferrari 458 Italia second on the provisional GTE grid.
Antonio Garcia kept Corvette Racing in the mix, qualifying fifth at 3:55.963 in the No. 63 Corvette C7.R.
Aston Martin also took the provisional pole in the GTE Am class as Pedro Lamy drove the No. 98 Aston Martin Vantage GTE to the fastest lap at 3:55.102 – quick enough to qualify second in the GTE Pro class!
Qualifying will continue with a pair of two-hour sessions on Thursday evening to set the final grid.
