Amazing class battles in Canada
While Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf may have been unchallenged at the front to take a dominant overall victory at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park today, the battles for the class titles had the fans on the edge of their seats today.
The Muscle Milk Pickett Racing squad took its fourth consecutive win in Canada and recorded a fastest lap nearly two seconds a lap faster than last year.
The GT fight was a barnstormer with Corvette Racing’s Tommy Milner and SRT Motorsports Dominik Farnbacher fighting it out to the final lap.
Farnbacher actually got a run on Milner down the Andretti Straight on the final lap only for the PC car of Tristan Nunez to spoil the party. Despite being several laps down, Nunez passed Farnbacher and blocked his attempt to make an outside move around Milner at the ultra-brave turn eight.
The victory by Milner and Oliver Gavin was their second of the year. They are the first pairing to take more than one win this season.
SRT Motorsports celebrated its first double podium with Jonathan Bomarito and Kuno Wittmer in third place. Their chance for victory was ruined by a small off at Moss Corner and a pit lane speeding stop-go penalty.
Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia pulled off a great fightback to come from the rear of the grid to finish 4th.
In P2, Marino Franchitti came from a couple of laps down to push his Level 5 Motorsports HPD entry to the win with Scott Tucker.
Scott Sharp and Guy Cosmo took second ahead of pole man Mike Conway who dominated the race early.
In the PC class, Colin Braun and Jon Bennett took their second win of the year to push Braun into the championship lead
