The field for the 90th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was announced in France today with a host of new American teams readying themselves for the ultimate challenge in international sportscar racing.

Returning to the race for the first time since 2000, the factory Viper squad –  now campaigning under Chrysler’s SRT brand – will return to Circuit de la Sarthe with a pair of entries in the GTE-Pro ranks.

With each team having to nominate one driver prior to the release of the entry list, Marc Goosens and Dominik Farnbacher are listed on the entry list with SRT expected to compete with the same driver line-up as in the ALMS last year.

Extreme Speed Motorsports will make its debut in France with one of its Ferrari F458 Italia machines. Team boss Scott Sharp is named on the entry list as its nominated driver.

Dempsey Racing will return for the first time since 2010 with the team contesting the GTE-AM class in partnership with the Proton Porsche team. Dempsey regulars Patrick Dempsey and Joe Foster will be part of the driver line-up.

Other American-based teams will include the new tie-up between IndyCar squad HVM and Status Racing in P2; last years P2 winners, Florida-based Starworks Motorsport (with reigning ALMS PC champion, Alex Popow driving); Atlanta-based Krohn Racing in GTE-AM alongside the new 8Star Motorsports team which recently ran in the Rolex 24. Both Krohn and 8Star are expected to battle for season honors in the WEC for the GTE-AM class.

Corvette Racing is back with its usual barnstorming two-car assault while Level 5 Motorsports – although not competing in the ALMS this year – will race at Le Mans in P2.

Rebellion Racing – which will run a P1 car in both the ALMS and the WEC this season – has both cars entered for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
