All action at Mid-Ohio at half way point
Crashes, a long safety car period, penalties and even a problem for the safety car have been the highlights of the latest round of the American Le Mans Series at Mid-Ohio.
Just prior to the half-way mark, LMPC championship leader Gunnar Jeannette was tapped into a spin bringing out a long yellow.
Jeannette’s teammate had previously tangled with Eric Lux while battling for the class lead.
On the restart with 1 hour, 17 mins to go, Guy Smith held the lead for Dyson Racing ahead of Lucas Luhr.
However, on the opening lap, Luhr was finally able to find a way past and put the Muscle Milk Aston Martin into the race lead for the first time.
Oliver Gavin led for Corvette after a stellar opening stint for Jan Magnussen. Pat Long held second abord the Flying Lizard Porches.
The previously dominant BMWs got shuffled back a couple of spots in traffic early, but then tangled together causing a spin for Bill Auberlen. Dirk Mueller led Dirk Werner in 3rd and 4th in GT.
Steven Kane unfortunately crashed the second Dyson P1 car coming onto the main straight.
The big question looming now – will it rain ?
