Abt leads Audi 1-2 in Berlin E-Prix
Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler had a dream race weekend on home soil in Germany, as Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi completed a 1-2 finish in Saturday’s Berlin E-Prix.
From pole, the German led the race throughout and also posted the fastest race lap. It’s his second win of the season, after also winning in Mexico in March.
Di Grassi, meanwhile, has finished second for the fourth straight race.
This is the second 1-2 finish for a team in the fourth season of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, as the Techeetah team did so earlier this year in Santiago, Chile.
Points leader Jean-Eric Vergne still has a healthy gap leaving the weekend, having finished third behind the pair of Audi drivers.
With Sam Bird (DS Virgin) and Felix Rosenqvist (Mahindra) in seventh and 11th, respectively, they continued to lose ground to Vergne with just three races remaining.
Vergne holds a 40-point lead over Bird, 162-122. Rosenqvist now heads up a close battle for third with 86 points, while Abt is fourth on 85 and Sebastien Buemi is fifth on 82. Di Grassi’s run of form has been nearly impeccable since Punta del Este. He’s now sixth in points with 76.
Techeetah has a 44-point lead over Audi in the team’s championship.
Next up for the championship is the inaugural Zurich E-Prix on June 10. Then the final weekend of the year is the doubleheader in New York City, July 14-15.
