6 Hour Update: Rolex 24 At Daytona

January 24, 2015

6hour_strip2Six hours into the Rolex 24 at Daytona and Chip Ganassi Racing and Corvette Racing were the big movers at the opening round of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

Former BMW driver Joey Hand was at the wheel of the No.01 Ganassi Ford entry he is sharing with Scott Pruett, Charlie Kimball and Sage Karam.

The second Ganassi car of Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan, Kyle Larson and Jamie McMurray held second place.

The top six cars on the timesheet remained on the lead lap. Early casualties in the race included the DeltaWing which lasted only 42 laps, and the No.2 ESM HPD of Ed Brown, Johannes van Overbeek and Jon Fogarty.

The Krohn Racing Judd-powered Ligier also fell out with engine failure.

In GT Le Mans, Corvette held the same positions as Ganassi at the front of their class.

Jan Magnussen held the lead aboard the No.3 Corvette – the Danish ace moving forward through the field from fifth on the grid.

Pole winner Oliver Gavin was second ahead of the No.62 Risi Ferrari.

Teams facing early setbacks include the Aston Martin Racing entry plus the AF Corse Ferrari which incurred a penalty for not stopping at the red light at the exit of pit lane.

Other class leaders include the 2014 race winning PC entry of CORE autosport with Jon Bennett/Colin Braun/Mark Wilkins/James Gue and the No.93 Dodge Viper in GTD.
