Ostella takes Canadian Porsche title
Young Canadian star David Ostella wrapped up the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin Series at Calabogie Motorsports Park on the weekend – finishing second to Chris Green in the final race of the season.
For the fourth consecutive race, event was green all the way around for the sprint’s entirety.
One point separated SpeedMerchants and Pfaff/Alegra Motorsports in the teams championship entering the final round of the season.
Starting in the front row, the black/red/chrome No. 13 entry of Ostella lined up next to Green’s No. 9 Castrol entry. Ostella managed to lead the field from the green flag to the second-to-last lap of the race. Green waited patiently, nearly three tenths of a second back from Ostella for the majority of the race until he secured the lead with five minutes remaining. Taking the checkers three seconds ahead of Ostella, Green secured the team championship for Pfaff/Alegra Motorsports.
“It was a wicked start, but I held the lead almost until the end but Chris Green got around me, and he was always there,” Ostella said.
“I just thought of the championship and decided to just let him go and worry about finishing second, and ended up getting the championship. I can’t thank the team enough! SpeedMerchants did a fantastic job and the Porsche GT3 Cup Car was amazing.
“The Michelin tires held up a little bit better than yesterday, but it was just great out there. The tires have been awesome all year. I have to thank all of my sponsors for helping me get here and I am happy to bring them home a championship. Especially my grandfather and my family, they definitely will be proud, and it’s great to be able to go home and show them this.”
Ostella was the fastest driver on track today with a time of 2:03.519 on his third trip around the circuit. The Maple, Ont.-native finishes the season with two wins and nine podiums in his Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin debut.
Green’s fast lap on the 3.05-mile, 20-turn circuit came on Lap 3 with fresh Michelin tires. His time of 2:03.562 was second only to SpeedMerchants’ Ostella. With the victory, Green finishes the season with five wins this year, the most of any participant.
“Today really was for the team,” Green said.
“I really had to step up and show them that I wanted to get this for them. The team championship is almost just as important as the driver championship. You can win those every now and again, but for the team it just means so much more to me. I’m really happy overall with the day.
“David (Ostella) drove a great race. He was clean. He was fast. I was just sitting there again hoping he would make a mistake, but he drove a flawless race and I have to give it to him. I just had such an incredible car underneath me I knew at the end I would be able to jump and take an opportunity on him, but I’ve really got to take my hat off to all the Pfaff, Alegra and Castrol guys. It was an awesome day, I love them, and it’s for them today.”
